WVU Potomac State College kicked off its 119th fall semester a bit more normal
than the previous year when the COVID-19 pandemic required strict precautionary
measures. This year, WVU’s highest priority across all campuses has been to offer
students a fully in-person, on-campus academic and student experience. As always,
the safety of students, faculty, staff, and guests continues to be an important
guiding factor.
While WVU has not required vaccinations, they have strongly encouraged everyone
to be vaccinated and to verify their vaccine status.
As the semester has progressed, Potomac State’s campus community has had to be
flexible and adapt to the ever-changing situations COVID-19 and the delta variant
has presented.
During Homecoming 2021, the campus plans to celebrate the life of a beloved former professor, cheer on the women’s and men’s soccer teams and honor outstanding alumni.
Honorees this year include Kenneth Haines, Class of 1950, PSC professor emeritus
of modern languages, to be awarded the Alumni Achievement award posthumously; A.
Jay Root, Mineral County Health Department Administrator, will receive the Distinguished
Service award; and Logan DelSignore, Class of 2012, a local realtor and entrepreneur
will receive the Young Alumni Achievement award.
Paige Durr, left, is this year’s recipient of the WVU Potomac State College Dulin
Memorial Scholarship. She is a freshman studying exercise physiology. Pictured
with Durr is the College’s Development Director Keri Whitacre.
The Dulin Memorial Scholarship was created by George and Joann Oss in July 2016.
The couple established the scholarship in memory of George’s maternal grandmother,
Cora A. Dulin, who raised both him and his younger sister after the passing of
their mother when he was just four years old. The scholarship is intended to recognize
Cora Dulin’s interest in education, especially for those in need of financial aid.
I am honored to announce that due to a generous bequest from alumnus, John Philip
Spoerl (Class of ‘63), an irrevocable trust has recently been established allowing
the Alumni Association to create the John Philip Spoerl Scholarship, to be awarded
to select Business Administration students at WVU Potomac State College.
If you are interested in giving back to the Alumni Association or College, there
are three simple ways…
